What you’ll typically need
- A valid passport or travel document
- Your Certificate of Sponsorship reference number from your employer
- Proof of your English language ability
- Evidence of personal savings, unless your employer certifies maintenance
- TB test results, if you are applying from a listed country
- A criminal record certificate, if you will work in certain roles such as health, education or social care
FAQs
The general threshold is £41,700 per year, or the going rate for your job, whichever is higher. Some applicants can qualify with a lower salary, for example new entrants or roles on the Immigration Salary List. We’ll check which rules apply to you.
New applicants need English at level B2. If you already had a Skilled Worker visa before 8 January 2026 and are extending or updating it, level B1 still applies.
Usually about 3 weeks if you apply from outside the UK, and about 8 weeks if you apply from inside the UK. Priority services may be available for an extra fee.
In most cases, yes. Your partner and children may be able to apply as your dependants. Care workers who applied on or after 11 March 2024 cannot bring dependants.
Yes, but your new employer must hold a sponsor licence and assign you a new Certificate of Sponsorship. You must make a new application before starting the new job.
Home Office fees depend on where you apply from and how long your visa is for. You will also usually pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (see GOV.UK). Our own fees are set out in writing before any work starts.
